Our old friend, Diebold is making the news again (no, not for faulty voting machines), but because of their new ATM software. According to NFC News, Diebold not only plans to implement thumb scans into its army of ATMs (following a beta test, of course), but they eventually hope to store all the data on a central server–all in order to provide security and a single data center.
Considering the flap over Diebold’s notorious voting machines back in 2000 and again in 2004, and yet again in 2006, one has to wonder about the ‘security’ of such a centralized cache of our biometric data.
For more information on Diebold, here’s a link to Derek’s 2006 interview with Black Box Voting founder Bev Harris.
